Labour in Loughborough Constituency

Labour is the largest political party in the Loughborough constituency.  The constituency includes the town of Loughborough and several important towns villages in north Leicestershire.  These include Shepshed, Barrow upon Soar, Quorn, Sileby, parts of Mountsorrel, Hathern, Wymeswold, Burton on the Wolds and Walton on the Wolds.

Labour was founded to give ordinary people a voice.  At that time women didn’t even have the vote and workers were exploited by employers and landlords.  There was little protection for the environment.  Of course, largely through political action, things have improved, but we haven’t stopped the fight for fairness.  People still need protection at work, not just in Britain but in developing countries too. Labour is a democratic socialist party.  Close to many other similar parties elsewhere in the world. our philosophy of sharing wealth and giving a voice to the voiceless has universal appeal.  Included in that is a deep respect for human rights and the protection of the environment – these things were there at our origins and remain in our DNA today.
