Labour Party Statement on change of Charnwood Borough Council leadership:
12th May 2023
New Labour Administration set to take control of Charnwood
The Labour Party have reached an agreement with the Green Party to run Charnwood Borough Council as a minority Labour administration after last week’s borough elections, which saw significant gains for Labour, and resulted in the Conservative group losing overall control of the council. The agreement confirms that the Green Party will support the Labour Party in matters of confidence and supply, ensuring a stable administration in Charnwood.
Charnwood Labour Group leader, Cllr. Jewel Miah, said:
“We’re delighted to have picked up new seats across the borough, in Loughborough Southfields, Woodthorpe, Barrow, Mountsorrel, Birstall East & Wanlip and Shepshed, and we thank residents for putting their faith in us to represent them in both these areas and the wards in which we have held our previous seats. This result comes at a crucial time for Charnwood. We recognize the challenges facing the community. We are ready to represent the needs of the people of Charnwood and promote policies that will create a better future for all. We are looking forward to achieving our goals of making Charnwood a greener, more equal and sustainable community.”
